What you gain
At the same visual quality, WebP is 25–35% smaller than JPG. Pages with many photos load noticeably faster, and Google's PageSpeed Insights recommends it under "Serve images in next-gen formats".
JPG is already lossy, so converting adds a small extra loss. If you still have the RAW or PNG original, converting from that gives better quality.
Frequently asked questions
Which quality should I use?
75–85 for photos. JPG quality 90 and WebP quality 80 look about the same.
Is EXIF location data kept?
No. Re-encoding strips all metadata.
I heard AVIF is smaller?
AVIF is another 20–30% smaller but takes longer to encode and does not open in older software. Choose WebP for compatibility, AVIF for the smallest size.
Can I convert in bulk?
Yes. Add as many files as you like; they are processed in turn and can be saved together as a ZIP.

What is sent
The tool you used and the settings you chose (output format, quality, etc.), your device specs (GPU, memory, core count), the input format with a rough size, how many files succeeded or failed and how long it took, and the error type and details when something fails.
What is never sent
The files themselves, file names, text, subtitles or prompts you add to a video, and IP addresses. The data goes only to this site's own server, never to a third-party service.
