Edit text in a PDF
This free tool changes the text already in a PDF line by line, in its original font. There is no usage limit. The PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded. Characters missing from the original font are drawn with Noto Sans JP (Noto Serif JP for serif lines), so only those characters look different. Scanned PDFs, where the text is an image, cannot be edited.
You can open one PDF at a time (up to 200 MB on this device). The PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

About editing PDF text
Text is changed one line at a time and rewritten with characters from the line's own font. Characters missing from the original font are drawn with a fallback font and shown before you confirm. A change that contains characters the fallback fonts also lack (some symbols such as “≒”, Hangul, and some Simplified Chinese characters) cannot be confirmed. When the new text is longer than the original line, you can keep the character width or squeeze the characters into the original width.
The saved PDF keeps its original encryption and permission settings. Saving a digitally signed PDF invalidates the signature. “White-out + overwrite” only hides text visually, and the text underneath stays in the file. To delete text from the file data, use “Redact”.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no usage limit.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Opening, editing and saving the PDF all happen in the browser on your device. Processing statistics used to fix problems (page count range, number of changed lines, error types and so on) are sent to this site's server. They do not include the PDF's content, the text you typed, passwords or file names. You can stop sending them with the “Send processing statistics” switch at the bottom of the page.
Are there PDFs that cannot be edited?
Yes. Scanned PDFs where the text is an image, and vertical lines, cannot be edited. A PDF whose editing is restricted can only be viewed until you enter its permissions password. This tool does not guess passwords, so if you do not know the permissions password, ask the person who created the PDF.
Is there anything this tool must not be used for?
Yes. Changing a document created by someone else without the author's permission is prohibited. Creating a document whose content is not true is also prohibited. Do not give an edited PDF to others as if it were the original document.
Help us improve the service
If a conversion fails, sending us the circumstances helps us track down the cause. Knowing which devices and formats fail most often, and how long processing takes, lets us revise the supported formats and fix the bugs behind them. If you don't mind, leaving this on is a real help.
